Bill's FINAL Poetry Clinic

Dates: Monday 27 January – Friday 28 March 2025 (9 weeks)

Cost: £95 (half-price)

Poetry Clinic has been running since 2009, but really goes back through ‘Poetry Online’ and ‘Poetry Form & Experiment’ to 2003, and 22 years is a long time in anybody’s book/ online interface. Bill has decided to make this coming Spring Clinic the last in the series. To celebrate, the cost of participation will be just £95, ie half-price. Any profit will be ploughed into an anthology of poems that have appeared on the Clinic, to come out in Autumn 2025.

The first seven weeks of the Clinic will be limited to 15/16 people, but in the final two weeks, from Friday 14 March 2005, the Clinic will be open to anyone who’s ever participated, for several last hurrahs. Does Bill have any idea how this will work? No, not in the least!

Bill will still be happy to look at any individual poems, as long as he has time, health and a few brain-cells, after March.

* * *

Poetry Clinic is an online space in which about 12-15 people upload and share their poems (in whatever state) with each other and with Bill Greenwell, who offers edits and suggestions on all the writing posted. Sometimes the suggestions are quite radical. The atmosphere is supportive and the aim constructive, and you gain from seeing not only what suggestions are made about your work, but also about the work of others. You can comment on other people’s writing as well.

The Clinic has been running twice a year for over twelve years now, and is extremely popular. Places are strictly limited and they go fast.

The online software used is Moodle which is easy to use and allows participants to read poems and read feedback as soon as they are posted.

It doesn’t matter what kind of poetry you write – experimental, satirical, traditional, unrhymed, rhymed – it’s whatever you write that is explored. Warning: it can be quite a pressure to produce poems (one or two a week) for the Clinic. Best to feel sure you have the time and energy before committing.
